Last Man Standing season 7 won’t happen at CMT; show remains canceled
According to Deadline, there were some conversations about the show heading over to the country-music network following its cancellation over at ABC, with the biggest reason for that being the financials. In order to make a season 7 work virtually everyone would have had to take a pay cut, and it’s not clear by how much. This was likely a longshot move at best, but it’s understandable why the move was explored.
This decision unfortunately puts Last Man Standing in a place where its future is likely in grave danger unless a streaming service comes on board. While CBS has the conservative base to suit the show and its brand, its biggest issue for the time being is that Last Man Standing doesn’t have the ratings to be a fit over on their network. Meanwhile, cable networks just don’t have the budget to bring it on board. The show’s stuck between a rock in a hard place in that it is successful enough for other networks to want it, but too expensive for these same networks to be able to afford it. This is a tough place for the show to be in, but unfortunately this is it’s reality and the moment and that’s something that it will be facing as it struggles to find a new home. Maybe Fox could be an option given the studio in charge of the show, but it doesn’t really fit in there in terms of its tone and the other content that they already have across the board at the network.
For those who are upset about the notion that ABC canceled it because of Tim Allen’s political leanings, we do understand that. Yet, there may also be more to the story here if other networks are not interested in picking the show up despite its ratings. Much of that may have to deal with Allen’s salary.
