Poldark season 3: Aidan Turner talks action sequences, breaking his hand
In speaking on the subject to with Digital Spy, Turner revealed precisely what happened with a dangerous on-set mishap that would’ve caused lesser men to reconsider what they were doing in a scene. However, he opted instead to persevere and keep fighting through:
“I did break my hand because of the musket … In one of the scenes we are busting into a prison and Harry Richardson, who plays Demelza’s brother Drake Carne, was pulling back his rifle and the cock of the rifle caught my little finger on my left hand and pulled it right back.
“I knew something was wrong straight away but I had to finish the scene. The next 30 seconds, it felt like jelly.”
Hey, sometimes things happen when you are an action hero like Ross! You put your life on the line for others, but things do go a tad off the rails here and there. You just have to brace yourself for it. (Granted, breaking one’s hand is certainly not something that Aidan was expecting when he showed up to work that day.)
While Turner enjoys some of the action sequences on the show, he also said that he does especially love some of the domestic scenes and working closely with Eleanor Tomlinson (Demelza). The two characters will have some lighter moments over the course of season 3, though to be fair it’s pretty hard for the two of them to be in worse shape than what they were in for most of season 2. There is still the Elizabeth paternity issue to deal with, but if they are a united front, they’ll be far more capable of tackling that as a unit.
New episodes of Poldark season 3 will premiere in June on BBC One. As you would imagine, there’ll be wall-to-wall coverage on the site. For now, head over to the link here for some more assorted teases from the cast and crew!
Just remember when you’re watching Poldark this summer that Aidan gave his hand for some of these scenes, even if it was only temporary. (Photo: BBC.)
