The 100 season 5 spoilers: Be prepared for a lot more Echo!
As reported by TV Guide, the CW series has effectively promoted actress Tasya Teles (who plays the aforementioned role) to series regular for the upcoming season. This news shouldn’t come as a tremendous surprise, given that she’s been a part of the universe for the past few seasons, and judging from the end of the fourth season, she will be a big part of the fifth one. This is virtually confirmation that she will at the very least survive the time jump of several years between seasons.
Echo is the sort of character who there is still a whole lot more to learn about, and with that of course comes some more intrigue and opportunity. This is a show that spends a lot of time on the present, and therefore you don’t get too many opportunities to figure out the past. Even if it comes via dialogue or the result of her experiences, the promotion means a chance to dive further into some of this stuff.
As for why there was room to promote Teles at this point, much of that ties back to how many characters The 100 has lost over the past couple of years. Obviously the exits of Alycia Debnam-Carey and Ricky Whittle in season 3 left an enormous void in the show, and during season 4 Devon Bostick and Zach McGowan had their own walk into the sunset. With Isaiah Washington not returning to the series full-time in the fifth season (presumably, Jaha is still alive), that opens up an even larger void for other characters given that he was one of the most-renowned actors in the cast for the first four seasons of the show.
Now that this news is out there … well, get ready to spend the bulk of your time sitting around and waiting to see some further scoop. It’s gonna be a while.
