CBS Fall 2017 Trailers: See Shemar Moore’s SWAT, David Boreanaz’s SEAL Team, more
Have you had a chance to check out some of the first CBS Fall 2017 Trailers? The network released them earlier this week. This article is your guide through all of them, whether it be sharing the videos or giving you loglines / first takes on whether or not the shows will work.
Before you check these out, a quick reminder that there is already a dive into the Young Sheldon trailer on the site.
9JKL, Mondays at 8:30 p.m. (before Thursday Night Football ends)
Logline – “A family comedy inspired by a time in Mark Feuerstein’s adult life when he lived in apartment 9K in the building he grew up in, sandwiched between his doting parents’ apartment, 9J, and his brother, sister-in-law and their baby’s apartment, 9L, and his attempts to set boundaries with his intrusive but well-meaning family.”
Trailer – It’s pleasant enough and Feuerstein is a lovely actor who was fantastic throughout the run of Royal Pains. The main issue present is that the laugh track feels forced and the comedy a little predictable through one trailer.
Me, Myself & I, Mondays at 9:30 p.m. (before Thursday Night Football ends)
Logline – “A single-camera comedy examining one man’s life over a 50-year span. The show will focus on three distinct periods in his life – as a 14-year-old in 1991, a 40-year-old in present day, and a 65-year-old in 2042.”
Trailer – Fairly fun; there is some promise to the comedic interpretation of This Is Us. Bobby Moynihan is fantastic, and his presence after a nine-year run on Saturday Night Live should offer up the show a little bit more in the way of energy.
SEAL Team, Wednesdays at 9:00
Logline – “Follows the professional and personal lives of the most elite unit of Navy SEALs as they train, plan and execute the most dangerous, high stakes missions our country can ask of them.”
Trailer – This is exactly what you would expect — David Boreanaz leading the charge for a show about kicking butt and saving America. It’ll appeal well to the heartland, and given CBS’ core demo it should be a hit even with a predictable trailer.
SWAT, Thursdays at 10:00
Logline – “A locally born and bred S.W.A.T. sergeant is torn between loyalty to the streets and duty to his fellow officers when he’s tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. Inspired by the film of the same name.”
Trailer – This is also a solid, sure-fire hit given that you have Shemar Moore starring in his first show since leaving Criminal Minds in a show that fits the network formula. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but it doesn’t need to. It’s definitely going to be entertaining.
Wisdom of the Crowd, Sundays at 10:00
Logline – “Inspired by the notion that a million minds are better than one, a visionary tech innovator (Jeremy Piven) creates a cutting-edge crowdsourcing app to solve his daughter’s murder, and revolutionize crime solving in the process. Based on the Israeli format of the same name.”
Trailer – This feels a little bit like Pure Genius meets APB. Unfortunately, both of these shows got canceled. This is CBS’ riskiest new fall show — it’s got a great lead in Jeremy Piven and a smart, future-forward premise. The problem is that the title is terrible, and those shows proved that future-tech isn’t always a ratings draw.
