The CW 2017 Fall Trailers: About Valor, Dynasty remake
In looking at The CW 2017 Fall trailers, the first reaction worth having is simply that there isn’t all that much here. Then again, there are only ten hours a week that the network programs with original series, so only having two new shows on the schedule shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. As for whether or not these new shows are good enough to last a full season, meanwhile, is a very different story. One has the potential to be an ultimate guilty pleasure and something that people really talk about at length. The other, meanwhile, could be in some danger right from the get-go.
Below, you can see synopses and trailers for both Valor and Dynasty, with some of our thoughts to go along with it.
Valor, Mondays at 9:00 p.m. Eastern
Logline – “The boundaries between military discipline and human desire are tested on a U.S. Army base that houses an elite unit of helicopter pilots trained to perform clandestine international and domestic missions. The drama unfolds in the present as well as in flashbacks to a failed mission involving one of the first female pilots in the unit, ultimately uncovering layers of personal and government/military secrets and leading to a season-long plan to rescue a group of MIA soldiers.”
Trailer – It’s interesting enough to watch, and Christina Ochoa is certainly a worthy lead to the series. The large issue that may be a takeaway in watching this is simply a matter of not knowing precisely who this show is for. Is it for people who love military shows, or the standard CW series? It just seems off-brand, and that could cause it some trouble. The one thing that it has in common with its lead-in Supergirl is that both feature prominent appearances from strong women.
Dynasty, Wednesdays at 9:00
Logline – “A modernized reboot of the 1980s primetime soap that follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. The series will be told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Fallon Carrington, daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington, and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal, a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class. Features the 1% in all its glitz and gloss, while exposing the dark underbelly: a corrupt world built on backroom deals.”
Trailer – This is more in the network wheelhouse, a juicy drama from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of Gossip Girl that looks at the ridiculous life of some powerful people who could see everything get upended sooner rather than later. This looks like it will be a guilty pleasure ten times over.
