Chicago PD season 4 finale: Is Sophia Bush leaving?

Sophia Bush leaving

Earlier this week, the Chicago Fire finale took advantage of an opportunity to create a heck of a crazy finale, one that left many characters in jeopardy. Meanwhile, on the Chicago PD finale, the show chose to send things in a very different direction.

Is Sophia Bush leaving following the events of this episode? In the closing minutes we did see her character make the difficult decision to take a new job with the FBI in order to help ensure that she would be able to clear her mother of any charges. Unfortunately, she didn’t know the precise nature of her mother’s full criminal behavior — only Voight does for the time being. She seems primed to move and get away from her life, but under a pretense that isn’t entirely true.

While it may look as though Bush, who has been with the show since the beginning, is gone, that may not be reality. She’s a beloved part of the show, and these cliffhangers are made for a reason — to keep people guessing and give us a lot to talk about over the summer while we wait for the show to come back. For better or worse, her whole life is in Chicago. While there may be negative influences there like Bunny, she also has Halstead and many of her friends. These are reasons to stay put, and these could be more apparent early on during season 5.

Ultimately, once Lindsay knows more about what Voight’s figured out in terms of Bunny, that may be enough to bring her back. Given that the DEA assignment didn’t pull Erin away from the show, it’s hard to think that this will either.

For now, just try to get through the long One Chicago hiatus in any way possible. Season 5 of the show premieres this fall, and more will be revealed then. There are some other issues that the show may also need to take on at around that time, including Halstead’s PTSD (which has not been fully dealt with) and whether or not there will be more of Upton on the show. For the time being, the role’s been a temporary replacement while Marina Squerciati was on maternity leave. Burgess will be back in the early going for season 5.
