CarterMatt Quick Hits: Arrested Development renewed; Jimmy Fallon on Donald Trump interview; Star Trek: Discovery photo

There’s a ton to talk about (as per usual) in this CarterMatt Quick Hits today, but the top story is the announcement of Arrested Development season 5. All of the main cast — including Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Portia de Rossi, David Cross, Jason Bateman, and Alia Shawkat — will be back. Netflix head Ted Sarandos also teased in a statement that the entire ensemble may have a little more time together than they did in an infamously-scattershot season 4.

Also in said statement, show creator Mitch Hurwitz passed along the following:

“In talks with Netflix we all felt that that stories about a narcissistic, erratically behaving family in the building business — and their desperate abuses of power — are really underrepresented on TV these days. I am so grateful to them and to 20th TV for making this dream of mine come true in bringing the Bluths, George Sr., Lucille and the kids; Michael, Ivanka, Don Jr., Eric, George-Michael, and who am I forgetting, oh Tiffany. Did I say Tiffany? — back to the glorious stream of life.”

As for some other news of the day…

Jimmy Fallon addresses controversial Donald Trump interview – To this day, Fallon continues to receive criticism for messing up the then-Presidential candidate’s hair during an interview, a moment that made it seem as though Fallon was diminishing the impact of some of Trump’s inflammatory comments. In a new interview with the New York Times, Fallon said the following about it today:

“I’m a people pleaser. If there’s one bad thing on Twitter about me, it will make me upset. So, after this happened, I was devastated. I didn’t mean anything by it. I was just trying to have fun.”

“People pleaser” is the apt comparison for Fallon, who seems just like a nice guy who wants to have fun with his guests and doesn’t ever dive into hard-hitting subjects. There are times when this benefits him; however, this incident is reflective of the limitations of his style. There are certain people on either side of the aisle who don’t coalesce with the way that he does his interviews.
