Fox gives Marvel – X-Men project The Gifted series order

Is Fox getting ready to tackle both Marvel and DC Comics at the same exact time? You have to wonder based on The Gifted and its pickup.

This series, which comes in part from X-Men franchise director Bryan Singer and also former Burn Notice boss Matt Nix, is a heck of an ambitious series about people, powers, and the humanity associated with them. It’s a story about what happens when labels and barriers separate us into “the same” and “the other,” and there are some consequences that can come about as a result of that.

The synopsis below does a pretty good job at detailing precisely what is coming up next:

“THE GIFTED focuses on a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.”

As for the cast for the show, you are getting Stephen Moyer of True Blood and Amy Acker of Person of Interest as the two leads. Meanwhile, the children are going to be played by Gotham alum (ironically) Natalie Alyn Lind and Percy Hynes White of Between. Some of the other familiar faces in the project include Jamie Chung of Once Upon a Time and then also Emma Dumont of Aquarius fame. This is a show that has a good bit of promise, but what’s interesting about the teaser video below is that Marvel and Fox really aren’t putting a whole lot of effort into promoting the show alongside the X-Men brand. Instead, they seem a little more keen on separating the two a little bit fir now.

It’s possible that this show ends up being the next great hit, but it’s hard to tell anything based on 20 seconds. What we do know for certain at the moment is that Fox is desperately in need of a hit. Just remember that other than Lethal Weapon and Empire, the series does not have a whole lot of hits on the drama side.

What do you think about the idea of the teaser, and also the pickup from Fox? Sound off with some of your thoughts with a comment!
