The Leftovers season 3 episode 5 spoilers: Matt’s journey to Australia
Christopher Eccleston is a brilliant actor, so any chance we get to celebrate him is going to happen here at CarterMatt. The Leftovers season 3 episode 5 will be another chance to dive into his world. With all of the pop-culture references that we’ve seen on this show, the fact that next week’s episode is titled “It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World” is rather amusing. There are certainly few characters out there who have been on crazier adventures than the minister. He’s stood on ceremony, tested his faith, brought his wife back from a coma, and then lost her at the same time. For much of this season, a key focus for him is proclaiming Kevin Garvey to be a savior and someone worth following in the religious community.
So what happens when Matt’s teachings are at odds with what Kevin is actually doing? This will be the focus of much of the upcoming episode.
The Leftovers season 3 episode 5 synopsis – “Convinced it is Kevin’s (Justin Theroux) destiny to be in Miracle for the coming seventh anniversary of the Departure, Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston) impulsively heads to Australia in an effort to bring Kevin home. Unfortunately, God gets in the way.”
The obvious way to read this story is that this is a way to get Eccleston in the country with many other main characters at the moment; we imagine that before the finale, in one way or another we will see even more characters find a way to join Kevin and Nora. There is a certain element of pilgrimage here, watching people from various walks of life find their way to this country in order to deal with a mysterious, contentious future. While we don’t know what this future will be, we still find ourselves very much intrigued to find out however much Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta decide to give us.
One more thing that we’ll say within this article — for those of you looking for a sequel-of-sorts to last week’s incredible, mind-bendy episode “International Assassin,” such a thing will be coming by the end of the season.
