Once Upon a Time season 6 episode 19 spoilers: The Black Fairy’s real name
Specifically, one of the first things that is rather striking about the synopsis below is that you get a chance to learn the real name of the title character once and for all:
“In flashback, after Rumple’s mother, Fiona, learns from his fairy godmother that his destiny is prophesized, she does everything in her power to keep it from happening. Ultimately, Fiona will have to make a decision that will change the course of both their lives forever. Meanwhile in Storybrooke, Rumple faces a similar dilemma.”
We do like that the Black Fairy has a name that, on the surface, is very sweet and innocent. It also reminds us of Princess Fiona from Shrek, which we very much enjoyed (at least the first time). What also should prove interesting in this storyline is that Fiona, like so many other villains within the Once Upon a Time universe, was not always so evil and crooked. She at one point had different aspirations and motivations, and something went off the rails along the way. While they do exist here and there, we don’t have all that many characters within the universe who started out as pure evil and never really changed said stripes over the course of the series’ run.
Unfortunately, we don’t see Fiona becoming anything other than the Black Fairy for the rest of this season. You do have to remember in the end here that we’re gearing up for the Final Battle, and not the final hug-fest where everyone gets together at Granny’s and compliments the establishment on its pie. The first six seasons of the show are set to culminate in this huge showcase, and if the show gets renewed for a season 7 (which seems very likely at present), that will serve as an opportunity to look forward at some other avenues when it comes to the story.
For now, be excited … but also be afraid. The Black Fairy’s origin story is finally almost here!
