Supergirl season 2 spoilers: Meet General Zod

General Zod

General Zod is one of the most famed opponents of Superman within the DC Comics universe. He’s a famed power player from Krypton, and he’s capable of doing some powerful, terrible things.

Now, we know for certain where we are going to see him next — on Supergirl season 2. As first reported by Bleeding Cool, you are going to get a chance to see an appearance from Mark Gibbon (who has actually appeared already on Arrow, in addition to The 100 and a wide array of other shows) as the character. It’s a little surprising that we’re going to see Zod appear so close to the end of the season, and with such little fanfare, given that we would consider him a top 5 Superman villain.

Yet, this may be intentional for a number of different reasons. First and foremost, you should remember that Tyler Hoechlin is going to be returning a little bit later this season as the show’s Clark Kent, and there could be some excitement that goes along with that. Bringing in Zod may be a way for the show to connect Superman and his mythology further to this world — this could end up being just a small cameo. Obviously, the show wants Supergirl to stand out as her own character, and they may not want to force her to spend too much time with Superman villains. That could be one of the reasons why we haven’t see Lex Luthor on the show yet — and why we may ultimately not see him at all. All we can say at the moment is that we’re going to be seeing a more prominent appearance from Lena Luthor given the promotion of Katie McGrath to series regular for the upcoming third season of the show.

For the time being, the primary villain that you should be focused on at the moment is Rhea, given that you’re going to have a chance to see more of Teri Hatcher throughout the remainder of the second season. We know that she is the one with the biggest personal motivation to go after Kara, given everything that has been going on with Mon-El.
