Hap and Leonard season 3 renewal: Do you want it?
At the moment, SundanceTV has not announced the future of the James Purefoy – Michael K. Williams series one way or another. However, do do think it’s a show with a loyal audience, and it is one that is probably rather tough to gauge in terms of direct ratings. Thanks to it being only six episodes, there are going to be many people out there who sit down and watch all of the episodes over the course of a weekend or even a day. You don’t get a sense of most of that in the live+same day ratings. We do think that there are viewers who are still discovering the series and how good it can be, so hopefully this is also something that SundanceTV takes into consideration.
In terms of the source material, there is almost no doubting that there is some further stuff that the writers can explore here based on the Joe R. Lansdale books. There are several more novels still to adapt, with The Two-Bear Mambo being the one that would like comprise the third season of the show. Given that season 2 expanded more of the world and moved things more into the community, this in turn could mean that season 3 will feature more returning characters than what we had during the transition from season 1 to season 2. (Granted, it was kind of hard to bring a bunch of dead people back.)
Hopefully, SundanceTV will announce the decision in the coming weeks so that the process can start to begin in terms of adapting the story; to go along with that, you have to figure out the mechanics, break down the story, and all of the other good stuff that goes into making the show happen.
As soon as there is something more known in terms of the series’ future, we’ll let you know. For now, be sure to let us know in the comments if you want to Hap and Leonard renewed! We’ve also got a poll if you prefer to vocalize your thoughts that way. It doesn’t hold any bearing in what network decides, but it does help to gauge passion.
Meanwhile, be sure to head over to the link here to read all of our other Hap and Leonard coverage. We will have a review for the finale up later tonight. (Photo: SundanceTV.)

That’s awesome! I may read down the road once the show is over — I don’t tend to read the source material during the run because I’m super-fearful of comparisons.
