Broadchurch season 3 episode 8 (finale) spoilers: The Trish Winterman case ends

Next week on Broadchurch season 3 episode 8, it all ends. This is the series finale, and answers are coming your way.

So what happened to Trish Winterman? The story on ITV is set up to answer the question, and more than that, determine precisely what sort of closure the writers and producers want to offer up to some of these characters who have lived within this world for so long.

Remember, odds are that this is the final episode of the entire series. British dramas know when to get out and not overstay their welcome. With that, it makes some sense for them to want to drop the curtain now as opposed to waiting for some other point down the road. In ending things now, they know that they are dropping the curtain at a time when the series is still popular, and there are people who would love to see it go on forever. We anticipate resolution — it may not be the resolution that you want, but so is live. Broadchurch is not so much a series about happiness as much as it is a show about reality.

Just in case you were curious as to how secretive ITV is being about the finale, this is all that they had to say in a synopsis leading up to it: “Hardy and Ellie uncover the truth behind the rape of Trish Winterman.”

The connections between this series and the science-fiction staple are surprisingly vast — not only have both shows featured David Tennant already, but Arthur Darvill also played a key part in both series.

Bring your hankies, and anticipate that you’re going to need a little bit of therapy by the time the series comes to a close.

In the closing minutes of the episode tonight, we bore witness to more revelations regarding bloodstains, and a dangerous cliffhanger to boot. Unfortunately, we are no closer to identifying the rapist. The taxi driver seems to be the consensus pick, but aren’t they a tad obvious now?
