Gilmore Girls season 9: Lauren Graham open to returning, if story is right
Much of the reason for the buzz at the moment stems from Netflix’s own Ted Sarandos, who said earlier this year that there are some discussions being had at the moment about extending the franchise. However, nothing was official at that time, and that remains true today. As a matter of fact, Lauren Graham and Alexis Biedel have not even been formally approached about doing more at the moment.
Speaking at a recent The Contenders panel, TVLine reports that Graham had the following to say about potentially returning to this beloved series for one more go:
“If it all existed in a vacuum, I would play that character until my dying day… Now it’s become what could we do with this story that is satisfying, that is worth continuing. I don’t know if there is a need to do more. I wouldn’t want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome.”
One of the big issues that could exist out there in terms of more Gilmore Girls is a simple matter of scheduling. Both Graham and Biedel are in high demand, and it’s not going to be easy to find time in which the two are both free and able to contribute to doing a little bit more of the show. Beyond that, were is also the issue of getting the right story together and assembling the supporting cast. Given where the story ended in terms of the pregnancy surprise at the end of A Year in the Life, there is obviously life past those famous four words. In the end, though, we do think that no matter when the show ends, there is always going to be some sort of cliffhanger just because of the fact that this is the sort of show that this is. It’s never going to be one that gives you much in the way of a conclusive end. That’s not life. There’s always something more, and even when some of your stress is gone, something else will rise to the surface.
Once there is some further news regarding the franchise’s future one way or another, we’ll be sure to let you know.
