Is SNL new tonight? Alec Baldwin, Melissa McCarthy, The People’s Court

People's Court

Is SNL new tonight? We know that the NBC shows is doing some pretty nasty stuff right now in making you wait, but you’re about to have to wait for a little bit longer. There is no new installment airing tonight, but the good news is that in one weeks’ time, you’re going to have a chance to check out a new installment featuring Louis CK as the host. FINALLY, right?

Anyhow, tonight the show is repeating the Alec Baldwin – Ed Sheeran episode from earlier this year, which was a very good hodgepodge show. There were some sketches that were extraordinary, and then some that you probably don’t need to ever need to see again. As your personal Saturday Night Live assistant, we do think we’ve got for you below the sketches that are the most worthy of a re-watch. If you haven’t seen the episode before, these videos do make a good primer for what you should see even if you don’t want to watch the entire hour and a half. (We get it, that’s a lot of time to give up for something that’s not as culturally relevant as it was a little while ago.)

The return of Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer – This was genius. The only thing that hurt this when it first happened was that we’d just seen McCarthy the week before in the role. It was, to put it lightly, the funniest sketch of the season. This is still great, and we figure we’re getting one more of them when McCarthy hosts a little bit later this season.

Also, we wonder how SNL is going to keep coming up with great props for this.

Fatal Attraction spoof – We didn’t know we needed this sort of sketch featuring Jake Tapper and Kate McKinnon’s Kellyanne Conway, but we personally find it hysterical. We know that it was a little bit controversial when it first aired, but our feeling on that is fairly simple — it’s comedy! It’s not something that is meant to be taken seriously, so we’re better off just enjoying it, getting a laugh, and moving on.

The People’s Court – When Baldwin was first announced as the host for the show, it was easy to assume that he was going to play Donald Trump. The big surprise was having him do a spoof on the popular daytime court show, which was actually set up with a line earlier in the night.
