Abby Lee Miller quits Dance Moms, gives lengthy statement

Dance Moms

In what should not be the most surprising news in the world for most people out there, Abby Lee Miller is quitting Dance Moms for a laundry list of reasons, and in the midst of a legal investigation that could end with her serving jail time.

In a very long-winded statement on Instagram (one that apparently included her forgetting to turn off the caps lock), Miller had the following message to pass along while explaining her decision to step aside from the long-running Lifetime reality series:

“The majority of children that follow me may be fast asleep, however now is the critical time to make the following statement: I WILL NO LONGER TAKE PART IN DANCE MOMS. FOR THE PAST SIX YEARS/ SEVEN SEASONS I HAVE ASKED, BEGGED, AND EVEN DEMANDED CREATIVE CREDIT FOR ALL THE IDEAS, AWARD WINNING ROUTINES, THEMES, AND COSTUMING – TO NO AVAIL! TODAY, I WAS SO PROUD THAT I WENT AGAINST THE PRODUCER’S IDEA (ONCE AGAIN) TO ENTER A COMMAND PERFORMANCE OF ONE OF MY FAVORITE NUMBERS… “WHERE HAVE ALL THE CHILDREN GONE?” ALONG WITH THREE BEAUTIFUL SOLOS! I don’t have a problem working with any kid, I love children and have dedicated my life to making other people’s children successful! I JUST HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BEING MANIPULATED, DISRESPECTED, AND USED – DAY IN AND DAY OUT BY MEN WHO NEVER TOOK A DANCE LESSON IN THEIR LIVES AND TREAT WOMEN LIKE DIRT!”

Hopefully, the majority of America will take advantage of this opportunity to now distance themselves from a show that’s been a hot mess (and not the good kind) ever since it premiered. While there are many talented dancers who have come out of Miller’s dance academy, watching her abrasive training methods often felt uncomfortable … and that’s putting it mildly. This is not the joy that we associate with dance, and the only thing more cringe-worthy at times than watching this show was watching Miller judge Dancing with the Stars one time, despite many of the pros making their thoughts about her show very clear.

Ultimately, we don’t know what the future of this show would’ve held with Miller given her legal case at the moment … maybe this ends up expediting the process of sending it off the air. We won’t know for a while. We’re all for dance education, but there have to be better ways to do it than on a reality show.
