Big Little Lies finale spoilers: Jane, Celeste, revelations, and decisions

Big Little Lies finale spoilers

On Sunday night the Big Little Lies finale is going to air on HBO, and regardless of how badly we may want a season 2 for the series, the reality here is that it doesn’t seem to be happening. This was always meant to be a seven-part miniseries; the fact that the promo for this episode (which you can watch here) hyping it up as the “final” one should be all the proof that you need that the Reese Witherspoon series is going to be coming to a close.

Below, we’ve also got for you the official synopsis, one that offers up some clues as to what’s going on and the answers that you’re going to be receiving over the course of the episode.

“After yet another fight, Celeste (Nicole Kidman) makes a bold move. Before the school’s long-awaited fall fundraiser, Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) deals with fallout from her past, while Jane (Shailene Woodley) learns who’s really been hurting Amabella (Ivy George) at school.”

As you can see, there are still some major mysteries lingering out there. For example, this doesn’t indicate to you who died, just as it also does not make it clear who is responsible for killing them. If you’ve read the book, you’ve got a good idea as to what’s coming, but the beauty of this series is that it’s all about the foundation. It’s about allowing you to get to know these people and their circumstances so that when the big murder happens, it makes sense and you’re left to pick up some more of the pieces.

Do we think that there could be a season 2 that is all about the aftermath of the death? Sure, but we’re not an HBO executive and therefore cannot officially greenlight more episodes as much as we wish we could. As we’ve said in the past, the best hope that we’ve got here is that this miniseries creates an additional incentive for the network to want to work with some of these performers and writer / executive producer David E. Kelley once more. This is something that is detailed further in the possible season 2 article that we devised recently over at the link here.

Now that we’ve gotten through all of this, we want to get all of your Big Little Lies finale predictions in the comments! Please, if you have spoilers from the books, be respectful and don’t ruin the fun for other people. (Photo: HBO)
