Lethal Weapon season 2 premiere date: Hopes, speculation on Fox series’ future
The first thing that we want to do is congratulate the show on a heck of a first season, and we don’t just mean that in terms of the show’s creative. We’re also talking ratings here! So far, season 1’s averaged a 1.6 in the key 18-49 demographic, which is easily enough to make it the #1 new show on Fox this season and the #2 drama overall behind Empire. (It would probably be the #2 show overall were it not for The Simpsons getting huge ratings bumps thanks to NFL football.) These are good ratings that create a strong foundation for when the show does return.
As for when that Lethal Weapon season 2 premiere date will be, odds are that it’ll be September at some point near the end of the month. The network does have a few important things here to think about, with the principal one being whether or not Fox wants to put the show on before Empire again since it’s shown it can be successful without it. In Moving Lethal Weapon to a Tuesday or a Thursday in order to better shore up those ailing lineups, Fox could then opt to air something else in front of Empire to provide it with a little bit of a ratings boost. It’s something that they have to think about.
While we do like the Lethal Weapon timeslot where it is, there’s a good argument to moving it to Thursdays in particular. There’s not too much direct competition over there when it comes to male viewers, and The Big Bang Theory is not the ratings monster it once was. Tuesdays would force it up against NCIS and The Voice (not ideal), whereas on Wednesdays now it’s up against another male-viewer-heavy show in Survivor to go along with Arrow over on The CW. Timeslots are a tricky game, but the good news is that Fox does have a lot of time now in order to sort this out and determine properly what’s best for them.
