The Originals season 4: Joseph Morgan not joining X-Men series, after all
Earlier today, some speculation first surfaced that the actor could be leaving the CW show, or at least was appearing on another in the tentatively-titled Gifted, a pilot set within the X-Men universe for Fox. He was spotted at a read-through in a position that certainly tends to suggest that he was going to be a part of the show. Our feeling at the time was that maybe he was doing a guest role for the pilot, or that maybe this was him hedging his bets and finding a gig in the event that The Originals does get canceled before a season 5 rolls around.
As it turns out, the answer is “neither.” According to Entertainment Weekly, Morgan is actually not joining the show at all — he was merely filling in and lending a helping hand at the read-through so that the producers could get what they needed. It’s certainly a favor that he could potentially cash in down the line, but not at the moment.
In the end, we do think that Morgan is going to be a hot commodity for whatever new show could potentially want him whenever The Originals ends. He can be funny and charming, and at the same time also violent and terrifying. He’s got more layers than almost any other actor within the Julie Plec vampire universe. Still, he’s got unfinished business now with this show, and that is amplified now thanks to the fact that The Vampire Diaries is over and there was a strong moment between Caroline and Klaus in the finale that hints at a future connection coming down the road. We don’t know if Candice King would ever head down to New Orleans, but it’d be fun to have more Vampire Diaries connections to that world … even if it doesn’t happen until you roll around to a season 5.
For now, the X-Men project does have a number of other notable names, including former True Blood star Stephen Moyer and then also Jamie Chung, who recent appeared on both Once Upon a Time and also Gotham.
