March Makeovers: Is a Scorpion season 3 villain, another big twist, needed?
Before we get around to that, though, we should start off here with a reminder that, alas, there is no new episode airing on CBS tonight. The show’s coming back on the air in one week’s time with an installment entitled “Monkey See, Monkey Poo,” which may be the greatest and most disgusting title for the show in its history.
For the sake of this article, we do want to go beyond the titles and focus a little more on a key question: Are we in the midst of a creative rut here? Is there something more that the show could be doing in order to make itself stand out more? Its episodes are very entertaining, but there are also many of them that are rather quick and easy to forget. Every week, we have a pretty basic formula: There’s some crisis that threatens the lives of at least a few people (if not more), and the team fixes it while trying to repair some character relationships at the same time. You get some humor, and also get to see things go kaboom.
Maybe all of this is enough to keep the show on the air for another season, but for the sake of its longevity, there are a few changes that could be made in order to get people discussing it with some excitement beyond just watching it on a weekly basis.
1. Get Walter and Paige together already. It’s been long enough. We don’t mean this in the sense of “the two characters aren’t good enough on their own”; it’s more that it feels inevitable that such a pairing is going to happen. Therefore, it makes a little more sense to just pair them up now and give us some time to see this dynamic properly explored. Think of all the fun things that these two could get into as a couple! With Paige single now, the door is open.
2. We need a compelling villain. We had one at the end of last season, but the more that the show gives you a defined adversary as opposed to Mother Nature or some mechanical problem, the more it raises the stakes. You don’t need to have the character be some terrible tyrant. They can have a little bit of humor and here, but just make it clear that they are an intellectual equal to Walter O’Brien and they know how to grind his gears.
3. More licensed properties would be. We do enjoy Super Fun Guy, but there are times when it doesn’t feel like this particular group of geniuses is living in a different universe than ours. Doing some episodes themed after something else in pop culture may cost money, but it would drum up excitement in ways that we don’t see otherwise.
What are some suggestions that you have to improve Scorpion season 3? Let us know some of your thoughts / ideas in the comments! (Photo: CBS.)

Suggestion #1 – Bring back Mark Collins! He is a perfect villain and foil for Walter. Perhaps have an ongoing project that only Collins can handle, like the search for a bone marrow donor for Ada. I still laugh thinking about Mark juking and jiving down the corridor of the prison. Bat-crap crazy is priceless.
Suggestion #2 – Cross-over episode with The Big Bang Theory. Scorpion team runs past BBT guys at Comic-Con. On Scorpion episode: Walter comments “Was that Sheldon Cooper?” On BBT episode: Howard comments “I would swear that was El Guapo.”
