Ransom episode 9 preview: ‘Girl on a Train’ and the latest ratings
Before diving any further, let’s share the official details.
Synopsis – “A couple in France turns to Eric and his team to rescue their daughter who was abducted from a train and they fear has been sold into human trafficking.”
It it still surprising that CBS saddled this show on Saturdays, given that in theory everything about it feels perfect for the network’s identity and who they are trying to reach — viewers who enjoy procedural stories and distinct, interesting characters week to week. In retrospect, we do wonder if there are regrets about airing this show on Saturdays, whereas Doubt was given the Wednesday spot and was just pulled / more or less canceled after just two airings.
The latest ratings report
One of the things we’ve been doing all season within these articles is keeping track of how the show’s faring week to week, and what we perceive the renewal odds are given everything all of the different obstacles that it has to face versus some other shows on CBS.
The good news is that this past episode held firm at a 0.4 rating; technically, it was up slightly versus the week before, but it evens out slightly when you do the rounding to the nearest tenth. The show seems to have a dedicated audience at around this, and that could give executives out there some hope that this is the show’s floor.
Here’s where the debate lies: It’s not really doing better than some of the typical CBS Saturday programming, so you have to wonder if renewing the show is a worthy investment or not. It doesn’t cost the show as much as their typical show (it’s an international co-production), so it can take that into account.
