‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off ‘Mayans MC’ casts ‘American Crime’ alum Clayton Cardenas
We’re getting closer to FX filming the pilot for their upcoming “Sons of Anarchy” spin-off entitled “Mayans MC,” and as a result of that, we’re thrilled today to be reporting some more of the latest casting news!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clayton Cardenas (“American Crime”) has been cast in the role of Angel Reyes, who is the second major cast member cast on the project. While there are some details on the part that are still scarce, what we know for the time being is that he is the brother of the still-to-be-cast EZ Reyes, who is a prospect for the Mayans and someone very much conflicted when it comes to both his desire for revenge against the cartels and keeping those he loves safe. Angel is the character’s brother, and is a full patch member of the motorcycle club. However, he’s long lived with a chip on his shoulder after being perceived as the “lesser son” in the family and does not feel as though he has some of the respect that is merited coming in his direction.
This is the second major role for the project that has been cast. Previously, former “Battlestar Galactica” actor Edward James Olmos was attached to the role of family patriarch Felipe Reyes, someone with a rather dark past of his own.
This is a series that we’re certainly excited about for so many different reasons. Original “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter is working on “Mayans” alongside Elgin James, an accomplished artist who he feels is properly qualified to tell the story of some of these people with the proper Latin voice and style. Given the ratings for the original series (which were enormous, to say the least), it’s fairly easy to be confident that this is a series that we’re going to see back on the air in due time.
