‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off ‘Mayans MC’ sets ‘Battlestar Galactica’ alum Edward James Olmos
We’ve been waiting for many months to learn some big news regarding the potential “Sons of Anarchy” spin-off series entitled “Mayans MC” — luckily, the first bit of casting that we’ve got is not a disappointment at all.
Sources confirm that former “Battlestar Galactica” actor Edward James Olmos is set to be one of the stars of the FX series executive produced by original series creator Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. Specifically, he will be playing the part of Felipe Reyes, a man who sets atop a noteworthy family and tries his best to keep them on the right path; however, he’s got a history that includes a great deal of danger and violence all its own, and this may not be something that he can keep secret forever.
This is an exciting cast for us for a wide array of different reasons, with the principal one of course simply being our sentiment that he’s one of the great TV actors of the past several decades, and his work on “Dexter” has also been severely underrated. (He was only a part of that show for a portion of a season.)
The main character of the “Mayans” spin-off is going to be EZ Reyes, a prospect close to the Mexico / California border who will be battling against the cartels and struggling to maintain the love and loyalty of some of the people that he cares about. We anticipate that the show tonally will feel largely similar to the original, while still having its own identity and culture. There’s been a great deal invested already in making this the best show that it can be; we know that it’s meant to be somewhat separate from the original “Sons,” and with it being further south in the state of California, there may not be too many crossovers between the two shows. We’re personally still curious if there will be any at all.
