Ratings: How are ‘The Blacklist,’ ‘Riverdale,’ and ‘Training Day’ holding up?
“The Blacklist” – It feels right to start with the Megan Boone / James Spader series, which is in a rather strange spot on the bubble right now given that this was at one point a marquee hit over on NBC. (We blame the drop mostly on the timeslot change in season 2 coupled with a little too much experimenting for a network show.) Last night’s new episode held steady with a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, but that’s not the sort of rating that tends to make you feel all that great.
“Riverdale” – For its third week on the air, it continues to hold firm at a 0.4. This show could be renewed in similar fashion to “Jane the Virgin” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” — it’s quality, and The CW may keep it on that basis alone.
“Training Day” – In week 2, the show dropped to a 0.8. Unless an idea is offensive or egregiously awful, we never root for a show to be canceled — therefore, we hope that this show figures things out. For the time being, though, it’s hard to be optimistic.
“Powerless” – In its second episode, the show slid to a 0.9 rating, which is a drop of over 15% from the premiere. That’s not a great start here, either, and it’s a shame given that you’ve got a really awesome cast and an interesting premise of normal people living within a world of superheroes. Part of the problem here seems to be a lack of buzz around the pilot, and then also not doing enough with a great license that was given over to them.
