‘Outlander’ season 3 spoilers: New Caitriona Balfe photos surface!
“Outlander” fans, the Droughlander is of course still underway, and it doesn’t seem as though it’s ending anytime soon. With season 3 not premiering potentially until summer (there’s still no confirmation on Starz on the subject), we have to take and appreciate any bit of goodness that we can.
Today, that comes via two new photos featuring star Caitriona Balfe as Claire! These images were first shared by TV Insider, and they feature Claire seemingly working to start her life anew with baby Brianna in her present, which is of course after going back through the stones at the request of Jamie, before the Battle of Culloden could take place. As we learn in “Dragonfly in Amber,” Claire believes Jamie to be dead, and she is a shell of her former self romantically as a result of it. She’s done what she and her great love both believed to be the right thing for her child, but in the process takes away a huge chunk of her heart. It’s going to be emotional, but viewers of this show (not to mention readers of the Diana Gabaldon books) are probably used to things being emotional already.
Some of these scenes should prove useful in filling in the cracks for Claire’s story, and presenting us with a further sense as to precisely who she was in the time between when we last saw her with Jamie and where she ended up with her return to Scotland. It’s valuable character development, and it should be transposed rather beautifully with her arrival back to the past, and her search for Jamie that is going to culminate in a print-shop scene like no other.
Hopefully, Starz realizes the lingering effects of Droughtlander and decides to continue to share little photos and other teasers of what is to come. Of course, we’d love more video footage given that filming in Scotland is done, but maybe the network wants to get some work from South Africa in the can before they do that. This is the next phase of production, after all!
