‘The Vampire Diaries’ series finale: Ian Somerhalder final person to leave set

DamonIan stands alone.

Filming for the series finale of “The Vampire Diaries” finished up this week in Atlanta, and what we learned in the process of this is that one of the series’ stars in Ian Somerhalder wanted to be there to the very last second in order to take all of it in. This is something that he confirmed with the post on Instagram below, celebrating the show and giving out one last farewell.

It’s easy to see why Ian would be grateful, as this was a show that helped him to change his life. Before this, he was known mostly for playing Boone on “Lost,” and this turned him into more of a household name and someone who could attend conventions all over the world. It also helped him to have more of a platform for his environmental work, and spread a message all over the entire world.

So what could be next for Ian? That is really up to him at the moment. Because “The Vampire Diaries” wrapped production so early in the month, it does enable him more opportunities to look at other jobs for pilot season if he so chooses to stick around in TV. It’s possible that he will be more interested in doing movies for a little while, but we’re pretty sure that he and several other cast members are going to have some offers coming their way. It all comes down to picking the best thing that is right for you in the moment.

This post comes just a day after Ian and his wife Nikki Reed pulled a Mortal Kombat finishing move on many of the websites that have been stupidly spreading false stories about the two of them and Nina Dobrev over the years. (Major props for them for doing that — some of those sites had it coming.)
