Could ‘Black Lightning’ join ‘Arrow,’ ‘The Flash,’ and ‘Supergirl’ on The CW? It’s possible
Just in case you actually thought that The CW didn’t have enough superheroes already, we now bring you some further news that could have your eyes popping out of your head: They’re potentially going to have another one!
Today, Deadline reported that the network is looking into giving a pilot to “Black Lightning,” a series from Greg Berlanti and “Being Mary Jane” creator Mara Brock Akil alongside her husband Salim Akil. This series was originally over at Fox, but what moved over here after the network passed on the project. If picked up, this would give The CW five superhero shows all from Berlanti; while there is no confirmation yet that this would be set in the same universe as “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” or “Legends of Tomorrow,” you do have to assume that this is something that could be a subject of conversation.
“Black Lightning” is a show that is different than the others mentioned mostly in that it focuses on Jefferson Pierce, a man who’s already given up his vigilante title. He’s also a father to older children, and could end up getting back into the role after his daughter becomes intent on getting revenge. Pierce would make the very black superhero lead on network TV, which would be great just from the standpoint of introducing new voices. He’s also a powerful, imposing guy. We almost feel like this show would be a nice compliment to “Arrow” in particular, though it is hard to see how it would fit with the others.
We suppose that it is probably still best to not get too far ahead of ourselves here, largely because of the fact that this is still a show in the early stages. Nobody’s been cast in the leading role yet, and we also don’t have much of a sense that they’ve officially ordered a pilot just yet. Once some of those boxes are checked, then it may be time to give this even further consideration.
