‘The Vampire Diaries’ series finale: First look at Nina Dobrev on set
It was first reported just earlier this week that after much speculation, Nina Dobrev was going to be officially making an appearance on “The Vampire Diaries” series finale in the role of Elena Gilbert … and there was much rejoicing after the fact. Why wouldn’t there be? Finales are in many ways homecomings, and it is going to be rather nice to have an opportunity to see her come home for one last turn.
As for whether or not this turn is going to come as Elena Gilbert or Katherine — maybe both — that remains to be seen. Given the way in which we saw Katherine die on the show, and the presence of Cade at the moment as the Big Bad, we can certainly envision a scenario at the moment in which she ends up being drug back out from hell / whatever you want to call the world in which Cade is a part of.
The first look photo of Dobrev on set below is coming courtesy of show executive producer Kevin Williamson, who is having a bit of a homecoming during the final season, as well. He co-wrote both the finale and the premiere for this season with Julie Plec, marking the first time in years he’s been involved in writing multiple episodes of the show he helped to start. Since the early days he’s gone on to do “The Following” and some other projects, so it’s nice in some ways to also have him come back and have a physical presence here, as well.
Having these people back is a nice full-circle moment for the show, which was at one point a staple and a defining series for The CW in the time that followed its switch over from The WB and UPN. For many years, it was the network’s #1 show, and the ratings that it had back in the start of the run are still something that remain largely untouched in terms of competition.
