‘NCIS: New Orleans’ season 3, episode 12 review: Agent Pride solves murder on oil rig in Gulf of Mexico

Pride -On Tuesday night fans of “NCIS: New Orleans” got to see Special Agent Dwayne Pride show off another talent. The leader of the New Orleans field office revealed he once worked on an oil rig as a summer job years ago. Knowing how the oil rigs worked was his reason to solve a murder firsthand. He accepted the task of heading out to an oil rig 200 miles off the shores in the Gulf of Mexico to try and solve a murder.

Being on a deep sea oil rig definitely has disadvantages, including not being able to phone home (or the office). For Agent Pride, he arrived on the rig to ask questions and ended up being hunted by not one, but three killers on board. The intense cat and mouse game had fans on the edge of their seats as they watched the story play out.

Trying to figure out who might have killed the Navy officer it was Agent Pride’s team that deciphered the weapon was a deep sea welder. The victim had literally been fried in the middle of his torso and the only real answer was a weapon that also could have been a tool on the rig. The other big clue was the welder needed to have special training to use the tool, which drastically narrowed down the pool of suspects.

As viewers watched, they quickly realized that the welder didn’t work alone. He wasn’t smart enough to lead a crime of this magnitude. With a quick temper and wanting to make some extra cash, it was determined he had partners. As his accomplices came to his defense on the oil rig, there was another problem brewing off site putting everyone’s life in danger.

One more person was involved in this elaborate crime and he had intentions of blowing up the rig to small pieces. While Agent Pride was dealing with the oil rig situation, his team was on the case in New Orleans looking to find out who was putting the oil rig in danger by messing with the pressures at the job site. Turning the company upside down, it was quickly figured out that the son of the owner was looking to cash in by suggesting there was an accident. The last step for the crime to be complete was blowing up the oil rig, but it was stopped just in time.

A more personal story during the episode involved Forensic Scientist Sebastian Lund. Looking to make his move from scientist to NCIS field agent, the once feeble man was in the middle of training when his team needed him the most. Needing to make a choice on when to help his team, the scientist appears to have found his way in boot camp and might be able to finish it without too much trouble.

We were thrilled to see the back and forth banter at the office as each team member pulled their weight to get Agent Pride home safely. While it might have looked a bit chaotic, it definitely showed how the team comes together even in the worst of times. Episode grade: A-.
