‘Supernatural’ season 12: Check out the epic midseason trailer

Supernatural -

You gotta give the “Supernatural” family — this are people who know how to craft a hell of a trailer.

The video below courtesy of Jensen Ackles on Twitter offers up an extended look at what is coming starting with the January 26 winter premiere — which, as a reminder, is going to be airing at a new time in 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. This preview reminds us first and foremost that the Winchesters are not in a good place … or at least Sam and Dean are not. They’re trapped following the events of “LOTUS,” and facing a very different threat than they’re used to in the United States government.

We’ve stated this before, but one of the many things that we do in fact love about the present predicament for the Winchesters is that they’re not facing some demons that they can just kill — there are real people involved who are trying to do their jobs, and feel like the brothers were out to do harm to the President. Trying to get out of this situation could be tricky, but hey, these guys have found themselves in some terrible binds before only to work their way out of it. Knowing them, we figure that they’ll figure out a way to make it happen.

Hey, if nothing else, they’ve got some backup! We’re not sure what Castiel and Mary are going to contribute to the cause, but we’re excited to find out. (Plus, any opportunity to get Castiel and Mary involved in just about anything is something that we’re going to get absolutely giddy over. These two characters together = instant fun, since they are the metaphorical Connecticut Yankees in King Arthur’s Court in this world.)

Based on what we’ve been hearing, the second half of season 12 will be electric. The brothers eventually are going to find their equilibrium, and from there we’re going to get a chance to see a big Castiel episode featuring a “Walking Dead” alum, and an episode where Dean starts to lose his memories because of a spell. These one-shots are still what we live for with this show, so let’s hope for that perfect combination of humor and heartstrings.
