‘The Flash,’ ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,’ ‘Arrow,’ ‘Supernatural,’ more renewed by The CW
Why wait until May to start announcing some upcoming renewals? This is clearly the thought process for The CW, given that they made several huge announcements early Sunday at the TCA Winter Press Tour in terms of some of the shows coming back.
The following renewals were officially ordered this morning: “Arrow” season 6, “Supernatural” season 13, “The Flash” season 4, “Supergirl” season 3, “Legends of Tomorrow” season 3, “Jane the Virgin” season 4, and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” season 3. The latter show is probably the one that was considered to be most on the bubble, but clearly there were enough viewers out there who love the show, and much of the awards buzz surrounded it and star Rachel Bloom certainly does not hurt.
In a statement, network head Mark Pedowitz said the following about bringing these shows back:
“Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas. Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long.”
There are some other shows whose fate still hangs in the balance, but many of them, such as “The Originals,” “Riverdale,” and “The 100,” have not premiered as of yet. “Reign” and “The Vampire Diaries” are in their final seasons, and while “No Tomorrow” and “Frequency” are technically still eligible to return, most signs right now point towards it likely not happening.
Congratulations to all of the shows coming back, and to all of the producers and actors who make them so great. Also, congratulations to Pedowitz and the network for thinking in terms of the creators in mind, allowing them to start to plan far in advance for the future of some of their series.
