‘Shadowhunters’ season 2 ratings: Where does the premiere stack up?
While the first season of “Shadowhunters” was not necessarily a ratings monster for Freeform, at the same time it did provide many benefits for them. For one, it’s received plenty of attention on social media from it’s fans, and it has also taken much of the media by storm within its demographic. Basically, it’s a show that has done a lot of things extremely well over the course of its run so far, at least when it comes to maintaining the audience that it has.
Based on the ratings that are in now for the premiere, we feel like it is in a fairly good position. Monday night’s new episode drew in total a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is the figure that we look at in order to gauge renewal / cancellation odds. While this may be down almost 50% from the series premiere last year, the comparison is far more favorable when you look at this episode in comparison to the rest of the first season. It’s up from many season 1 episodes, and it ties overall what the season 1 average was in the demo.
Meanwhile, in total viewers the 1.2 million people who watched marks an increase of over 20% from where the show was in terms of its average — and that includes the premiere, which inflates the average heavily.
There are several more episodes still to come this season, and we’ll be back to be able to discuss that further as the season moves along. The only possible cause for concern here is that ratings for many shows do tend to fall after the premiere, so there does have to be that concern that something similar could be taking place here.
