‘Homeland’ season 6 spoilers: Rupert Friend discusses Quinn’s complete transformation
The sixth season of “Homeland” is going to be premiering on Showtime a little bit later this month, and one of the best things about that is the sole fact that the story of Quinn is far from over! Be honest: When you saw the character seemingly die at the end of this past season, weren’t you distraught? It was hard not to be. While we’re not going to say that he was the most emotional guy over the past several seasons, he was a compelling character and there were people out there who ‘shipped him with Carrie Mathison for a reason.
Therefore, there is understandably some joy that comes along with the fact that he is going to be back in action moving into the new season — though, at the same exact time, “back in action” may be a relative term. He will be back, but this is not the same version of Quinn you remember at all. As a matter of fact, this version may wish at times that he had died, based on what Rupert Friend told Entertainment Weekly in some of his first public comments about the character in a rather long time:
“Peter has been to hell and come back, and not necessarily come back in one piece … He’s not really even sure if his life is one that’s worth living … [The show] is doing something I don’t think any TV show has done before, where you have a character in season 6 and he’s basically unrecognizable from the previous seasons. Some will say, ‘But where’s my old friend?’ But that’s not the way the world works.”
What we feel like Quinn is saying here is that there is a very powerful, specific journey, and one that may never restore him to the person that he once was. While we did enjoy that Quinn, growth is necessary for any TV show; therefore, we have to imagine that there are some interesting opportunities that are going to be coming up for the character. You may be getting in particular a portrait of trauma that is different than the one that is typically brought to the table on the medium, where you get a small taste of it but not something that feels necessarily complete.
