With ‘Girls’ season 6 approaching, surprising season 2 revelation surfaces
The final season of”Girls” on HBO is premiering a little bit later this year, and this season should mark a chance to see some further evolution in the lives of Hannah Horvath and many of the other characters. While this is a show that has at times done great things, we do have a sentiment that it is time to turn the page. There is only so much story that can be told with these characters in this particular place in their lives.
With this new season approaching, this of course means opportunities to see what some of the cast has to say about the stories ahead. This includes the surprising news that star Jemima Kirke (Jessa) at one point considered leaving the show in season 2. Speaking to Glamour, creator / star Lena Dunham had the following to say:
“I remember being in a cab. And Jemima called me … She was like, ‘I have to tell you something. It’s not a big deal. I don’t want you to freak out. I want to quit the show.’”
Kirke added that much of her sentiment personally stemmed from the season being a difficult time in her life:
“My sense of who I was and what I wanted was really thin. I really wasn’t sure what the f— I was doing … Season two was kind of traumatic for me. I think for everyone. And I know that I was a bit of a tyrant myself.”
Do you know what they say sometimes about great things sometimes coming out of great trauma? While it may be a controversial opinion to some, we feel personally like the second season of “Girls” was the show’s best by a mile. It was the most experimental, the one that showed the most ebb and flow, and it allowed the characters time to separate and grow on their own. The episode featuring only Dunham and Patrick Wilson remains to us one of our favorite episodes of a half-hour comedy we’ve seen over the past few years.
