‘Bones’ season 12, episode 1 video: Brennan and Zack’s not-so-pleasant conversation

The latest season of “Bones” is set to premiere on Fox this week, and according to the latest sneak peek below that we’ve seen courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, Brennan is almost certainly in danger — but for who is really the question that is still floating around out there.

When you watch this preview, it’s easy to make the assumption that Zack Addy is the bad guy. After all, he seems to have captured Emily Deschanel’s character, given her a sedative, and is saying things like “I am in control” to her. Does any of this sound like a guy with the best of intentions in mind for her?

While all of this does sound understandably threatening, one of the most important things to remember here is that we’re talking about someone who has been locked up in a mental institution, and may not be able to properly show the right ways in which to channel emotion. We can see interpretations of this sneak peek where you could argue where he is trying to help her in his own way, and doesn’t have any direct intentions of harming her. If there is a further argument for this is, it is wondering why in the world he didn’t just kill her when he first got her rather than waking her up and striking up a conversation? All this does is drag everything out, and we don’t understand why Zack would feel the need to be one of those villains who needs some sort of epic monologue before doing the deed. No one wants a soapbox villain.

Regardless of whatever happens between Brennan and Zack in this premiere, know that this is not the end of their interactions. Eric Millegan will return as the famed character on a couple of additional occasions over the course of the season. Once we know a little bit more about his return and what it means, rest assured that we will pass some of that information along to you.
