‘Broadchurch’ season 3 teaser: David Tennant returns to BBC America in 2017
The last time we saw David Tennant in a significant role on American television, it was his magnificent turn as Kilgrave on Netflix’s “Jessica Jones.” Now, we’re going to be seeing him back on a series that, in the eyes of many, contains some of his greatest work to date: “Broadchurch.”
The upcoming third season was announced a long time ago, and we’re now getting word that it will air at some point in 2017. Returning to the series will also be Olivia Colman, coming off of a brilliant year thanks to her role in “The Night Manager.” Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Charlotte Rampling are also going to be appearing this time around, just in case you needed a more of a reason to watch.
Today, BBC America released the first official preview for the new season, but it unfortunately doesn’t give a whole lot away beyond just some fleeting images. It’s safe to assume a few things nonetheless, including that there will be an element of terror, a shocking new mystery, and something that continues to haunt these characters even after the resolution is reached.
There’s one other mystery that we have that stems beyond the show itself: What happens in the event there is a demand for a season 4? Series writer Chris Chibnall is moving over to “Doctor Who”, and while it’s been announced that this is the final season, we’ve certainly seen crazier things happen. (Personally, we hope that it is the final season and nothing changes, given that we cannot imagine this show without Chibnall being the one behind the scenes.)
