Could ‘The OA’ season 2 happen on Netflix? It seems possible
Admittedly, we’re still in the process of getting through “The OA” on Netflix, which has to be one of the stranger series of the year, though at the same time also thought-provoking. It’s also one that remains even now somewhat mysterious in the complete lack of promotion it received. Some of this seemed to be rather intentional; personally, we do think that the streaming service should have done a little bit more, simply because there’s a difference between hiding your premise (such as we saw with “American Horror Story: Roanoke”) and the nobody actually knowing who you are or that you exist.
It’ll be interesting to see what the ratings are for this show given everything in mind, but for the time being, some of the people behind the scenes remain at least moderately hopeful. Speaking in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, co-creator / star Brit Marling (who also co-wrote many of the following episodes) had the following to say when it comes to a possible vision that they have for more of the show about identity and loss:
I think from the very beginning when we were on our own daydreaming a story, we definitely thought how can we construct something that, many seasons out, has a satisfying end? So there is an end and there is an answer to every riddle and nothing is done to just be sound and fury going nowhere. It all goes somewhere. And as to whether or not we get to tell that, I certainly hope that we do. There is a place that season two already begins in our minds and a place in which it ends.”
For those of you who are interested in getting the answer in regards to a renewal, we imagine that this is something that is still a rather long ways out. The show just premiered a week ago, and we figure Netflix will likely want to see a month or two of data, at least, before they make their choice.
So long as you enjoy abstract science fiction, “The OA” may be a series worth watching over the course of the holidays. After all, what else is there to really watch? (Photo: Netflix.)
