SAG Awards 2017: ‘Better Call Saul,’ ‘Outlander,’ Sam Heughan, Viola Davis, Lena Headey among snubs
In this article, we’re focusing mostly on the snubs.
Lena Headey, “Game of Thrones” – Arguably the best performer from this past season, and the only nominee at the Golden Globes, she was shut out here while co-star Peter Dinklage got a little bit of love.
Viola Davis, “How to Get Away with Murder” – Once dominant as a nominee two years ago, this is the second straight awards show to snub her for playing Annalise Keating.
“Outlander” ensemble and its stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe – We figured that at least one of the three would be snubbed, but all three? That’s somewhat depressing given the amazing work that is being done.
Evan Rachel Wood, “Westworld” – This may be the biggest surprise of the whole night, given that she may be a favorite to win many other awards throughout the year.
“Insecure” ensemble and its star Issa Rae – As we mentioned, new comedies were given a hard time this year.
“Silicon Valley” ensemble and all individual performances – The same goes for other longer-running shows, including this one — still fresh off of the Critics’ Choice win.
“Mr. Robot” ensemble – Another huge surprise given the revolutionary work being done over there.
Chrissy Metz, “This Is Us” – It was nice to see Sterling K. Brown get some love here, but disappointing in particular that Metz did not.
“Speechless” ensemble – We knew it was a longshot, but it remains our favorite family comedy on TV right now.
“Better Call Saul” ensemble and Bob Odenkirk – Like “Silicon Valley,” Odenkirk was coming off of a Critics’ Choice victory.
