TV Quick Hits: James Corden hosting Grammys; ‘Game of Thrones’ alum’s DJ gig; Dave Chappelle heads to Netflix

Grammys -Let’s begin this edition of our CarterMatt TV Quick Hits with one of the biggest stories related to awards-shows that is out there today: James Corden is going to be taking up the job of Grammy host in the new year! Following his turn hosting the Tony Awards, he will be coming over to music’s biggest night — and hopefully joking about many of the artists he’s working with via “Carpool Karaoke” over the past year. (This news was first reported by Variety.)

In a statement, the “Late Late Show” host had the following to say:

“I am truly honored to be hosting The Grammys next year … It’s the biggest, most prestigious award show in music and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such an incredible night.”

Corden’s hosting gig comes after watching “NCIS: Los Angeles” star LL Cool J take on the role of host for several years on the program.

As for some other news from the day…

Game of Thrones” alum gets Critics Choice gig – For everyone out there who wanted to see more of Hodor in some capacity, this is the story for you! Per Entertainment Weekly, Kristian Nairn is going to be the DJ for both the event and the after-party, which all but guarantees that this event will be even more fun than it would’ve been otherwise. (Granted, we wonder how many people are going to shout “hold the door” at him in the middle of this performance.)

Dave Chappelle’s new comedy special – For everyone out there who is excited to continue seeing the comedy icon’s creative renaissance, this should be exciting news! Chappelle and producer / director Stan Lathan are teaming up to bring to you three specials that are going to be coming at some point in the new year for — you guessed it — Netflix. They’re becoming one of the best homes for stand-up out there.

In a statement on this news, Lisa Nishimura, VP of Original Documentary and Comedy for Netflix,

“Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy — searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential … Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy, and we are honored he will mark his global return on Netflix.”

After a winning stint on “Saturday Night Live,” consider us very much excited to see what Chappelle’s going to have to offer here! (Photo: Grammys.)
