‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: What to expect from Kristen Wiig, The xx
Tonight, there’s another episode of “Saturday Night Live” … hosted by Sarah Paulson? You gotta admit that with her new hairstyle, Kristen Wiig looks incredibly similar to the “American Horror Story” actress. Who knows? Sarah does really fall into her characters! Maybe Sarah is playing Kristen Wiig on this episode, which is really a show-within-a-show entitled “My Studio 8H Nightmare.”
Okay, we’ll stop with the “American Horror Story” jokes before we end up losing any more of the audience that is out there.
The promo below for tonight’s episode does actually reference Wiig’s new hair, and she attempts to cut Aidy Bryant’s so that they can become hair-twins. Aidy’s energy is always good for these sort of promos, since she’s always enthusiastic and happy to be there. Also, The xx as the musical guests at least seem to be game to be in front of the camera. These promos are always incredibly awkward, though, given that it’s really the only time that you’ll see most musical guests be in a comedic environment. Unless they make a cameo during one of the sketches on the night, odds are that they’re not going to break into slapstick humor in the middle of a performance.
As for what you can expect to see on the show, it’s already been reported that Alec Baldwin will be back as Donald Trump. Is it his last appearance as the character? We don’t know, but we cannot imagine him doing this full-time moving into the future. Following the Cold Open, we figure that from there we’re going to descend more into focusing on some other events of the week and potentially some random silliness from Wiig, who has an over-abundance of characters.
Unfortunately, we don’t love many of them. We’d be fine to never see Gilly again, and the Target Lady’s never quite been our jam. Still, both are 2000% better than Garth and Kat or The Californians.
