‘How to Get Away with Murder’ winter finale: Who died?
Tonight, “How to Get Away with Murder” delivered a midseason finale that was a million different degrees of shocking, perhaps most notably in how they played some clever trickery in order for us to think that someone ruled off as a potential candidate actually could be the person who was dead all along.
Based on where we saw him in the flash-forwards, we assumed that Wes made it through the infamous fire and couldn’t be the person who was gone; unfortunately, that turned out to not necessarily be the case. The one man who was ready to give up Annalise if it meant getting immunity for himself was found dead inside the burning building, and it was Nate who was present to identify the body at the end of the night. This was a rather cruel twist given that entering the episode, we were the most convinced that it probably was Nate who was the person dead judging from the candidates that we’d ruled out and precisely losing him would be the sort of thing that drives Annalise over the edge.
What was almost as bad as the death of Wes itself was the way in which it went down, with Nate telling Annalise that he was dead before the fire even started. Did he get that information from the medical examiner, or because of some other role in what happened? The main theory we’ve got going right now is that Nate, knowing that Wes was going to ruin Annalise, opted to take matters into his own hands.
Sure, there were other notable moments in the episode, whether it be that Bonnie / Annalise kiss or Michaela’s adoptive mother causing her all sorts of problems — but we know what the one story is that everyone’s going to be talking about for quite some time, and understandably so. Losing Alfred Enoch from the cast at this point is shocking, since we considered him in many ways the male lead.
