‘The Originals’ season 4 spoilers: Matt Davis to appear as ‘Vampire Diaries’ character Alaric
Yesterday, we learned for the first time that there is not going to be a single time during the year that “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” are going to be on the air at the same time. As a result of that, we do have a certain degree of fear that we were not going to get any real crossovers. This franchise hasn’t really relied on those too much in the first place, but we know that there are some out there who’d love to see more of them.
Well, it turns out that one of them is going to be happening regardless of when one show ends and another begins this March — per a report from TVLine, Matt Davis is going to be surfacing for at least one episode on “The Originals” as his “Vampire Diaries” character of Alaric Saltzman. He’s been a father figure to many characters on his show over the years, and this season he’s an actual father who is trying to do right by his kids while stopping the various problems around Mystic Falls — which is never particularly easy.
While it is easy to sit here and proclaim that this means for sure that Alaric isn’t going to die by the series finale of his show, we’d make no guarantees of such things. It’s not exactly clear how much the writers / producers of “The Originals” knew in terms of when their show was going to come on the air in relation to “The Vampire Diaries.” This story could be taking place concurrently to events elsewhere rather than immediately afterward.
One thing we do hope moving forward, especially if “The Originals” is renewed, is that we can use the show for small updates on the Mystic Falls characters; you can do that without them suddenly overwhelming this show.
