‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 7, episode 9 review: Jerry loses a friend, JFK conspiracy theory to blame?
On the last episode of “Hawaii Five-0” Danny and Lou learned that Will and Grace are dating. At first Danny was fairly unhappy with the idea that anyone was dating his daughter, by the end of the episode he still wasn’t happy, but was okay with it being Will since he’s a good kid. It’s young love so we aren’t expecting that if this show goes on for 20 more years that we will see a Will and Grace wedding or anything, but it’s fun to watch Danny squirm with the realities of raising a teenage girl.
Even though we saw Lou and Danny step back and give Will and Grace their first dance, Lou is worried that there will be some weirdness between him and Danny so he sits down to talk with him. Surprisingly, Danny isn’t worried at all now that he and Will got to know each other and he sees what a great kid Will is and how much he cares for Grace. Lou on the other hand doesn’t want Will losing his focus on school and is worried that he’s going to end up wearing love goggles and letting everything else slide to spend his time with Grace.
Jerry has been chatting with a girl named Susie over the internet, another conspiracy theorist and they are meeting face to face for the first time to talk about a theory she is getting close to uncovering! Unfortunately their meeting is very short lived, because while they are talking, Susie gets killed by a sniper. So what was the conspiracy theory they were chasing? The JFK assassination. The whole case of the week is based around Susie’s death, so when the FBI comes in and takes over, the Five-0 team starts to wonder if Jerry’s conspiracy theories might actually be true. As they uncover more clues, they learn that the conspiracy they were following was actually to assassinate Castro, not JFK. Also, they find out who killed Susie and that it had nothing to do with this JFK conspiracy she was digging into. It was actually about a chemical company she was looking into and was killed to keep her quiet. Even though Jerry and Susie were wrong about it being the JFK assassination, they were onto a conspiracy theory that turned out to be true, and it opened Steve’s eyes a bit as he told Jerry that he will take what he says a little more seriously going forward.
We haven’t had much of a Jerry presence this season (outside of the Halloween episode) since most to the season so far has been about everyone else (we even had a Lou episode and we barely get those!), so it was nice to see him in the spotlight. More then that it was nice to see him have some really meaty material, because Jorge Garcia is an actor that since his role on “Lost” hasn’t gotten a lot opportunities to show off what he can do as an actor – and we know he can bring it. Tonight was another nice reminder of his skill. Episode grade: B
