Is ‘Scream Queens’ season 2, episode 5 new tonight, and will hiatus damage show’s future?

The first four episodes of “Scream Queens” were certainly all sorts of exciting and dramatic, and in the process, we lost some extremely-popular characters. Both Denise and Chad are now off of the map, and we’re left to ponder over a wide array of questions, and that includes whether or not we will see some other favorites go in the episodes to come.

Unfortunately, we have some other concerns right now on a meta level when it comes to the series. The last time that a new episode of the show came on October 18, and that should give you a sense as to how long ago that was. Since that time we’ve had a full World Series, and tonight there is the Presidential election. As a result of that, there is not a new episode coming on Fox. Nobody wants to air against the election; we’ve said that a number of times now, and it continues to hold true that this is a time of the year where almost everyone is focused and concentrated on one thing more so than anything else.

Will this lengthy hiatus hurt the show? We’re certainly worried given that by the time it returns on Tuesday, 28 days will have passed between episodes. This is already a show that was low-rated going into this season, and one that just killed off a pair of beloved characters from season 1. We could easily see the numbers hovering at a point where it makes its future extremely dicey on Fox, and that would be depressing since there’s really nothing else on network TV like it. Sure, it can be a little gory for some, but it’s also funny and delightfully biting. There really is not anything else on TV quite like it, and that’s where some of the appeal comes from.
