‘The Big Bang Theory’ spin-off could happen featuring young Sheldon

Big Bang -For years, we’ve wondered if there could be a spin-off coming for “The Big Bang Theory,” given that it is the #1 comedy on TV and has such a robust roster of key players. Our sentiment was always to move away a minor character like Stuart, and then set another show all around him and his prospect to find love and improve his life.

Unfortunately for us, CBS is opting to go in a different direction, though we’re pretty sure that many people out there are still going to be happy with the news that we’ve got today.

According to Variety, the network and studio Warner Bros. TV are working on a new spin-off project that would focus on a younger Sheldon growing up in Texas. Jim Parsons, who plays the adult version of the character, would executive-produce alongside Chuck Lorre and current showrunner Steve Molaro. Bill Prady, another executive-producer on the series, is also reportedly expected to sign up.

It’s a little too early in the process to know if this show will happen, or if it will be any good, but we understand why it’s happening beyond just the obvious commercial reason. There is a craving for nostalgia-based television, and this could appeal to people out there who grew up in the ’80’s or ’90’s. Think of “The Goldbergs” or even “Stranger Things” as examples of two hit shows that are also a celebration of that era, and neither of them came into their runs with any sort of franchise connection.

Given the time period, no one from the original cast is expected to appear in the new show, provided that it jumps through all of the necessary hoops.
