NBC’s ‘The Voice’ rankings: We McDonald, Kylie Rothfield, Josh Halverson lead Team Alicia Keys
We’re back with the final edition of “The Voice” rankings leading up to Monday night’s new episode, and this time around, we’re casting our focus on Team Alicia Keys — which we really do feel like is a fantastic team that has a pretty darn good shot of making it all the way to the top this season. We feel like every person on this team has potential to make it pretty far over the course of the live shows, depending on the songs and if they can pull in votes on iTunes.
We are basing these rankings in part on how well we think some of these artists are going to fare in terms of sales; in addition to that, we’re also looking at performance quality, screen time, and voting history of similar singers over the course of the past few seasons.
5. Sa’Rayah – We actually didn’t think Sa’Rayah should’ve won her Knockout Round performance, and in general she’s a bit of an interesting case study for us in that we do think she’s very talented, but she needs to work on having consistent control during her performances. That’s not always there, and that keeps us from connecting with her as much as we would like.
4. Christian Cuevas – His last performance made a pretty big splash on YouTube, and his voice has a natural flow to it that makes it really pleasant to listen to. However, we do worry that his performances may be a tad too dated, and he will probably need to figure out how he wants to update this in the event he wants to make it far.
3. Josh Halverson – You have to be public with what the public is doing, and we’ve already seen some strong iTunes sales for Josh’s Knockout Round performance. He’s got a very intimate quality to his voice, and while there are some other vocalists with country leanings, he really has that storyteller quality that is essential to being really good in this particular genre.
2. Kylie Rothfield – She’s one of the biggest underdogs of the top 20 in that there are people with bigger voices or with more airtime; yet, she’s in the camp of Belle Jewel as one of those really interesting artists who you feel could come out and really surprise people. We loved the grit and variety that she put into her “Hound Dog” performance recently.
1. We McDonald – For the time being, We just has that star quality in spades. She’s likable, has an enormous voice, and like Darby Walker over on Team Miley, she’s got an added advantage in that her audition effectively aired on two different occasions. That little bump in screen time goes a long way.
