‘American Housewife’ picked up for full season; ‘The Real O’Neals’ adds episodes

American Housewife -

Typically when there is TV news coming out late on a Friday night, it’s of the whole world-is-ending variety. Therefore, it’s rather nice to have something to say today that is of the much more pleasant persuasion.

First, ABC made the decision (per Deadline) to bring you a whole lot more “American Housewife.” The family comedy was picked up for a full season today, which means that part of their comedy lineup is even further stabilized. Despite rather blistering reviews, the show to date is posting solid numbers, and we expect it to hold fairly steady the rest of the way. One of the things that the network’s done really since the breakout success of “Modern Family” is because television’s most-staple place when it comes to this particular genre. They may not be the edgiest home for comedy on television, but they tell interesting, diverse stories that don’t forget that laughter is a key component to the mission statement.

Elsewhere, the network also picked up three additional episodes of “The Real O’Neals,” which puts the entire season 2 order at 16. The ratings for this show are not at the same level as “American Housewife,” but this pickup still merits a celebration given that the series airs at a fairly tough timeslot on Tuesday night, and is able to overcome the fact that unless you actually were to watch the show, you’d have ultimately no idea whatsoever what it is about.

There are still several comedies left hanging in the air at present in terms of their future, but at least over on ABC they’ve shored things up rather nicely. “Speechless” was already given a full season, and the majority of the rest of their lineup for new is comprised of returning programs. They’ll have some more newcomers arriving a little bit later in the season.
