‘The Blacklist: Redemption’: Is the idea for the spin-off now out there?

Tonight’s new episode of “The Blacklist” spent the vast majority of its time understandably trying to handle the Alexander Kirk of it all. First, he was desperate to have Liz Keen cure him of his condition via a blood transplant. He almost succeeded in that before a DNA test proved otherwise. We never quite know what to believe with this show, but the evidence that we saw on the show more or less suggested, at least for now, that Kirk firmly believed that Liz was his child and had no tangible reason to think otherwise. Things will be getting violent next week, and there’ll be plenty of time to dive further into the potential end of this story then.

For now, let’s touch on the upcoming “The Blacklist: Redemption” spin-off, given the small hint of it tonight when Tom proclaimed to Liz that while he knew Scottie Hargrave was his mother now, he had no interest in learning more about his history on touching on that part of his life further. Is that really the case? We cannot tell you that, but executive producer John Eisendrath posed some interesting questions to Entertainment Weekly that suggest that in one way or another, Tom may want to revisit his thinking:

“For the first time in a long time, Liz and Tom are going to have the opportunity to have a family, have the family that Liz has always wanted … They will face up to whether or not that is satisfying enough. This the life that they’ve always dreamed of, and is that going to sustain them when there are all these other questions, particularly for Tom, that remain unanswered? Liz is entering a phase of her life where she has a lot of the questions she’s longed for answered; Tom less so. So is that imbalance going to affect their relationship?”

We’ve said all along that we would find it hard to believe Tom willingly leaving Liz and Agnes to go gallivanting around with his biological mother, and we still stand by that; however, there are two distinct possibilities: Either we’re wrong and Tom leaves willingly to learn about mom, or that comes as a function of some other even that ushers him away.

What we are curious about for the sake of this article is this: If Tom leaves for the spin-off solely because he does want to get to know his mother better, contrary to what he said tonight, is that enough of a reason for you to buy into the spin-off’s concept? Share in the comments below.
