‘Chicago Fire’ season 3, episode 5 preview: Severide and Casey clash
Tonight on “Chicago Fire,” you’re getting a chance to bear witness to a Jesse Spencer acting master class in “Nobody Else Is Dying Today.” It’s one of his finer performances, and the story tests Casey both on a physical and emotional level as his duties as Alderman and firefighter collided. We don’t want to say too much there in the event that you haven’t seen the episode yet, but you’re going to want to check it out. (Don’t worry, we don’t think anything moving forward in this article is going to be giving anything away.)
Next week, regrettably, the NBC series will be off the air for one simple reason: The Presidential election. With Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump facing off for one final time, all of the major networks will be busying tallying up votes and scoring millions of ratings at the same time. “Chicago Fire’s” important, especially as a nice bit of escapism from the real world, but this is one of those times where the real world does take precedence. Don’t worry: Your favorite firehouse will be back in action come Tuesday, November 15, and with an episode entitled “I Held Her Hand” which seems on the surface to be sweet, emotional, and also trying.
Synopsis – “Lt. Casey (Jesse Spencer) is unable to rescue a woman who becomes trapped inside her burning greystone, prompting him and Lt. Severide (Taylor Kinney) to butt heads over the husband’s role in the tragedy. Herrmann (David Eigenberg) is on a mission to catch a mystery tagger that keeps targeting their firehouse and Boden gets a surprise visitor. Meanwhile, Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Brett (Kara Killmer) respond to a 16-year-old boy who was injured during a romantic homecoming proposal.”
Given how unimportant a role Severide has in tonight’s installment, it’s nice to see him back at the forefront here. Also, let’s hope that Dawson and Brett are able to help this poor kid — otherwise, this may be a depressing homecoming story than the ones 99% of people out there. (Let’s be honest — we’ve all got bad homecoming stories.)
Promo – This is one of the shorter promos NBC’s released for the show, and almost all of it is geared around the Casey – Severide conflict. Given the severity of what they’re fighting over, we do understand the reason for the spotlight.
