‘Timeless’ season 1 gets three more episodes; ‘Taken’ prequel to follow ‘The Voice’

NBC is making it clear that there is going to be a little bit more time for “Timeless” as we move further into the new year.

Today, the network confirmed that there will be a 16-episode first season for the drama starring Abigail Spencer and Matt Lanter. That’s great news, but it’s a little disheartening to see that it’s not getting a 22-episode run. Then again, remember that NBC’s got a ton of shows on their roster, and while we don’t think that the “Timeless” ratings are terrible, they haven’t measured up to “Blindspot” or “The Blacklist,” which aired previously after “The Voice” on Monday night. It’s coming off of a series-low 1.1 rating, but you can blame that more on the Halloween holiday more so than anything else.

With this news, NBC also announced that their upcoming prequel series for “Taken,” which stars Clive Standen (“Vikings”) as a younger version of the character popularized by Liam Neeson, is going to be premiering in its own right on Monday, February 27 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, following the premiere of “The Voice,” which will feature Gwen Stefani once more following Miley Cyrus’ time on the show.

In a statement discussing all of this hoopla further, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Gleenblatt stated the following:

“Monday nights are critical to our success, and we’re going strong into the rest of the season with the return of The Voice in February followed by the premiere of Taken, along with additional episodes of our great new series Timeless. We’re very happy to welcome Gwen Stefani back to The Voice, along with Blake, Adam, and our new coach Alicia Keys. And Taken is a thrilling new series inspired by the hit movie franchise but updated in a very clever way.”
